Mayor Bloomberg's Re-election
Celebration
Lorraine was the emcee at this morning event More information at the mikebloomberg.com Website
July 21, 2005 LL Mayor B If there's one thing Gothamist realizes about yesterday's "Women for Bloomberg" rally, it's that comedy gold is all about making fun of the Mayor in subtle ways. Sure, Lorraine Bracco did butter up Mayor Bloomberg by saying, "He's smart. He's good looking. He's rich. And he loves his mother. He's perfect, right?" but we think we get where the joke is, right? Bracco also said that he doesn't "have the voice of actor James Earl Jones." That's for sure. Apparently Senator Schumer's daughter Jessica stopped by the rally, causing the Senator's spokesperson to assure the media that Senator Schumer would be supporting whoever wins the Democratic primary. Heh. Anyway, it seems like there was a lot of Borscht Belt style humor at the rally (Mayor Bloomberg marveling over having so much love from women wanting Bloomberg and asking "Where were you when I was 16?") but the most interesting thing is that Mayor Bloomberg joked about the absence of his mother - in D.C. with friend - saying, " "I don't know whether she's helping the administration or protesting against them." How amazing would it be for a 96 year old Charlotte Bloomberg to be protesting the Bush administration?
Mayor heartthrob 'He's smart, he's good looking, he's rich!' BY MICHAEL SAUL -- DAILY NEWS CITY HALL BUREAU Mayor Bloomberg busses 'Sopranos' star Lorraine Bracco during 'Women for Bloomberg' rally in Times Square yesterday. Mayor Mike apparently has a way with the ladies. In May, he got an enthusiastic kiss on the lips from Bertha Lewis, executive director of ACORN. Bloomberg got even more love yesterday - this time at a Times Square theater filled with women, including "The Sopranos" actress Lorraine Bracco. "He's smart. He's good looking. He's rich. And he loves his mother. He's perfect, right?" Bracco said. "The only problem is there are over 1,000 of us and only one of him. But I found out that this is pretty much the typical dating situation in New York. So we must be here for another reason." The official reason was the Women For Bloomberg rally, where mixed amid the giggles and chatter about Bloomberg's sex appeal, such as it is, the women delivered a more serious message: Bloomberg deserves to be reelected. Bracco, a Brooklyn-born friend of Bloomberg, lauded the mayor for overseeing a drop in crime and unemployment in the city, and a rise in student test scores. Though there was plenty of talk about the mayor's accomplishments, it was the lighter moments that carried the event. When Bloomberg took the stage, his face red from all the female attention, he marveled, "I never imagined in my wildest dreams that I'd be standing on stage feeling the love and support of hundreds of women for Bloomberg." "Where were you all when I was 16?" The crowd roared. For the record, Hizzoner noted that he's interested in New York men, too. "Not that I have anything against men for Mike - don't get me wrong, need those votes, too - but women for Bloomberg sort of has a nice ring to it," he joked. In the audience, Bloomberg's girlfriend, Diana Taylor, sat next to his sister, Marjorie Tiven. On the stage, Gail Badillo, the wife of Bloomberg's 2001 GOP rival, Herman Badillo, who endorsed Bloomberg's reelection bid, sat behind the lectern. Bloomberg's eldest daughter, Emma, and his 96-year-old mother, Charlotte, were featured in video clips. Bracco diplomatically noted that the mayor doesn't have the speaking voice of actor James Earl Jones, "he knows nothing really about pop culture, and I believe he's never seen an episode of 'Sopranos.'" "He's not that tall," she added, "but other than that, I think he's done a terrific job."
"Women
For Bloomberg" Throw Their Support Behind The Mayor A campaign event for Mayor Michael Bloomberg Wednesday put the billionaire businessman in the spotlight as one of New York's most eligible bachelors. NY1’s Sandra Endo filed this report. Primped and pumped up, hundreds of women came out today to rally for Team Bloomberg. “Sopranos” star Lorraine Bracco used her celebrity power to encourage women to get out the vote, showering praise for her friend. “He's smart, he’s good looking, he’s rich and he loves his mother! He's perfect,” said the actor. “The only problem is, there are over 1,000 of us and only one of him. But I found out that this is pretty much the typical dating situation in New York.” “I never imagined in my wildest dreams I'd be standing on stage feeling the love and support of hundreds of women for Bloomberg,” said the mayor. Instead of a traditional fundraiser, it was a breakfast rally held at the Hudson Theatre. Bloomberg is spending his personal fortune to finance his campaign. Besides all the signs and buttons, the political production featured several videos of the mayor's accomplishments, with testimonials from women, including his eldest daughter and his 96-year-old mother, Charlotte. The latest poll shows the mayor is doing well with the ladies. More than 50 percent of registered women voters approve of the job he's doing. Wednesday’s rally is an effort to capitalize on that feeling, to get women pumped up for Bloomberg's re-election campaign. Despite his strong standing with female voters, polls show the mayor actually does better overall with men, so Women for Bloomberg is designed to build on his hype. “I think that whatever one’s registration may be – whether Republican of Democrat or undecided – that he as a superb, productive and effective statesman-like leader can provide the best leadership for New York City,” said one supporter. “This mayor has put action behind his words, and it's going to be an interesting season,” said another. That is, if the Democrats can find some way to cut down on the mayor's lead, and his efforts to be a real ladies man.
Women say vote Bloomberg: smart, good-looking, rich ASSOCIATED PRESS Actress Lorraine Bracco told hundreds of women at a Manhattan rally for Mayor Michael Bloomberg's re-election that the 63-year-old billionaire bachelor is quite a catch. "He's smart, he's good-looking, he's rich and he loves his mother - he's perfect, right?" she told a giddy crowd on Wednesday morning. "But I found out that this is pretty much the typical dating situation in New York, so we must be here for another reason." The ladies weren't there to meet a rich man, they were gathered to launch the Women for Bloomberg effort of the mayor's campaign. Pink signs decorated the Times Square theater, where loud speakers blasted songs by Madonna and other hyped tunes. The event kicked off with a video featuring praise from various ladies - community leaders, friends, one of his two daughters and his 96-year-old mother. "He knows which things are right, which things are good, which things he ought to do," said his mother, Charlotte Bloomberg. The crowd oohed, aahed and laughed at all the right moments. Then the mayor took the stage and said that the women in his life are his "spiritual leaders." He compared New York City to a Norman Rockwell painting, and touched on issues like reproductive health and domestic violence. The mayor didn't miss the chance to flirt. "I have to say I never imagined in my wildest dreams that I'd be standing on stage feeling the love and support of hundreds of women for Bloomberg," he said. "Where were you all when I was 16?"
